It normally describes the way that the teeth bite together. It can also describe the way the teeth are arranged from an orthodontic point-of-view.
Occlusion is one of the most important aspects of dentistry and one that we work hard to perfect.
Your teeth interlock in a specific way; your "habit-bite". When having a filling that is on a biting surface of the tooth, the way the new filling meets the opposing tooth has to be replicated to ensure that your bite remains comfortable. If not, the tooth/teeth may feel "too big" and sensitivity and pain may result.
If your treatment involves several fillings or restorations e.g. crowns/ bridges, will we discuss the benefits of re-organising your bite to a reproducible position to make your bite and your treatment as straightforward and comfortable as possible.
